   XJ-S H&E Jaguar Repairs and Modifications [V12 Engine}

I have summarized some of the repairs and modifications I carried out on my V12 engine. Most of this was completed during the engine rebuild in 2001. A job not for the faint hearted.

XJ-S V12 5.3L Engine (To 1988)

General Motors Alternator:

During the engine rebuild I decided to renew most of the ancillary equipment. The starter motor, power steering pump and alternator where renewed. Rather than purchase a new Jaguar alternator I decided to go for the GM option with a modified alternator bracket.

The bracket is available from John's Cars, for more details go to http://www.johnscars.com.

The alternator is available from Napa, part number  213-4356. I purchased the 94 amp high output version for about $100. Other alternatives are Autozone DL7294, and Pep Boys 7294. The next time I have charging problems it will be a cheap fix?

Crank Main Bearing

Part of my reasoning for rebuilding the whole engine rather than just reconditioning the heads was the low oil pressure reading. Although my XJS ran like a dream with only 70K, when the bottom end was inspected I found the oil pump was totally shot and the main bearing on pistons 1a and 1b were in a shocking state. Look at the pits and scores in the picture. It looks like a previous owner did not look after the engine at some point.

TBD
